Any good for 'undoing' excessive compression on some CDs. Recommendations?

In the vintage consumer gear realm i'd opt for a DBX 4BX, the impact restoration circuit works quite well. I've also owned several RG processors that work fairly well. Competent service for these units is becoming hard to get, however.Originally Posted by mah
If you have local venues for used pro gear, take a look at finalizers/mastering processors. The DBX Quantum is an excellent sounding processor. Find a Paul White/Focusrite and you've struck paydirt.

One of the fellows who has worked on my speakers was a regional manager for Altec for a bit, he has been trying to get me to get a DBX with impact restoration for awhile, he says they can work wonders..
3BX DS also has impact restoration, but the unit is a kind of cheesy single rack space unit. The 4BX is the one to seek for the best price/performance ratio IMO. The 5BX would be the ultimate, but they're fairly uncommon and usually carry a hefty price tag in the used audio market.
